When Success Arrives, How Do You Make It Stay? A Small Story About "Continuity"

Last spring, a lady visited our online space. She was not a stranger, having stayed at our mountain valley temple for quiet cultivation a few years prior. Back then, she was going through a career low, with a trace of confusion in her eyes. But when we met again last year, she was radiant—her new venture had started smoothly, she had secured several key projects in a row, and her family relationships had improved.

We were happy for her. But when discussing her current situation, she revealed a subtle anxiety. "Everything is too good," she said softly, "like a summer downpour, intense when it comes, but I fear it may leave just as quickly. I keep worrying that this current smooth sailing is just luck, and I don't know when it will run out."

This feeling may resonate with many friends. When we are in a favorable phase, we often worry silently: How long will this wave of good fortune last? When the next challenge comes, will I still be able to hold steady?

This touches upon a simple understanding in our Daoist tradition: "Luck" or "momentum" is not static. It is like the tides, rising and falling; like breath, expanding and contracting. True wisdom does not lie in forever remaining at the peak (which contradicts the Dao of nature), but in accumulating strength during the ascent, maintaining balance amidst fluctuations, and allowing a positive state to extend naturally.

We explained this concept to her, and together we decided to request an "Enduring Momentum Treasure Talisman."

The original purpose of this talisman is not to "reverse heaven and earth" or "create something from nothing." It acts more like a steady guardian, operating on two levels:

  1. Internally, it stabilizes your vital energy: It helps you maintain clarity and humility during good times, reducing the intangible drain caused by complacency or anxiety, allowing your "mental and energetic focus" to last longer.

  2. Externally, it fosters harmony: It facilitates a smoother connection between your personal efforts and external opportunities, reducing unnecessary setbacks and interferences, allowing positive trends to continue naturally.

It does not create miracles; rather, it serves the very process of "continuity."

It is crucial to understand that the talisman you see is far more than a pattern. From the specially crafted bamboo paper that carries Daoist energy, to the cinnabar containing the essence of heaven and earth; from every stroke drawn according to ancient methods, to the incantations and scriptures recited throughout the process; finally, through the infusion of "true qi" by one of our fellow disciples in a state of deep meditation—it is the crystallization of a complete cultivation procedure. The surface strokes can be copied, but the ordered structure of "spirit" and "power" within cannot be replicated. Lacking the core energy infusion and procedural integrity, any imitation is merely empty lines, utterly ineffective, and may even disrupt the balance of one's own energy field due to its illegitimate "construction."

A few weeks later, the lady sent us a message. There was no exaggerated story, just these words: "My mind feels much calmer. The minor obstacles encountered while advancing the projects were handled more smoothly than I anticipated. Most noticeably, I no longer spend all day worrying that 'the good luck will run away,' and instead, I focus more on what I can do well right now." This, perhaps, is the best form of "continuity"—not fierce storms and towering waves, but the steady, deep flow of still waters.

If you are also in an upward phase of your life, cherish your current achievements, and wish for this hard-earned momentum to develop more smoothly and lastingly, then this "Enduring Momentum Treasure Talisman" might just be the serene and steadfast companion you need.
