Why, after a long time of effort, has your luck still not improved? The problem may not lie in the effort itself.

Many years ago, a visitor asked me a question.
He said he had been working very hard.
Waking up early every day.
Constantly learning.
Working non-stop.
But life hadn't improved.
His income hadn't increased.
Opportunities hadn't grown.
Instead, he was becoming more and more exhausted.
He said his greatest confusion wasn't the hardship.
But rather:
Why, after working so hard for so long, had his luck not changed?
This question is actually more common than one might think.
First, effort does not equal correct direction.
Many people believe that effort alone will bring results.
But in reality, effort is only a basic condition.
Direction is the decisive factor.
If the direction itself is off, then any amount of effort will only be wasted.
As the ancients said:
"If you take the wrong path, every step takes you further astray."
Meaning, if the direction is wrong, the harder you try, the further you stray from your goal.
Second, state is more important than effort.
Many people overlook a crucial factor.
State.
Including:
A person's emotional stability
Sleep quality
Mental stress
Level of inner anxiety
If a person is constantly in a state of tension and depletion, even if they are trying, their efficiency will be greatly diminished.
The ancients believed:
"When the spirit is chaotic, vital energy disperses; when vital energy disperses, strength weakens."
When a person's spirit is unstable, their actions can hardly accumulate results.
Third, the environment can continuously cancel out effort.
Some people's problems are not with themselves.
But with their environment.
For example:
Long-term high-pressure work environment
Consuming relationships
Lack of a supportive life structure
These factors constantly negate the fruits of effort.
Many people are not trying hard enough.
But rather, their efforts are constantly "washed away" by the environment.
Fourth, accumulation has not entered an effective cycle.
Effort truly works only when:
It can accumulate.
But many people are in a state where:
They put in a little effort today
It gets consumed tomorrow
They start over the day after
Without forming a stable cycle.
The ancients called this state:
"Scattered strength that doesn't gather."
Meaning, if strength is not concentrated, it naturally cannot bring about change.
Fifth, there is a delay effect in low periods.
There's a common phenomenon in reality.
When a person enters a low period, their state doesn't immediately show it.
Instead, there's a delay.
Even if they start adjusting, it takes time for the effects to show.
Many people mistakenly believe:
If they try for a few days and nothing changes
It means it's useless
But in fact, many changes accumulate slowly.
If you've been working hard for a long time without change, you can start by doing these three things:
First, re-examine if the direction is correct.
Second, reduce ineffective consumption and restore your state.
Third, stabilize your rhythm and avoid frequent switching.
Many times, the problem isn't a lack of effort.
But rather that the overall system hasn't been adjusted.
Why the ancients emphasized "regulating qi" rather than just effort.
In traditional Taoist thought, a person's state is more important than their actions.
Because actions are merely results.
And state is the root cause.
When a person's vital energy (qi) is stable, their actions are naturally more efficient.
When a person's vital energy is chaotic, even many actions can be ineffective.
Therefore, the ancients would emphasize:
First adjust body and mind, then discuss results.
The role of talismans during this stage.
In traditional usage, talismans do not replace effort.
Instead, they play a supportive role during periods of chaotic states.
For example:
Luck-changing talismans are used to adjust overall rhythm
Calming talismans are used to stabilize emotions
Luck-sustaining talismans are used to maintain existing improvements
Many people use these methods during long periods of low spirits to return to a stable state.
Conclusion
There's nothing inherently wrong with effort.
The problem often lies in:
Direction
State
Environment
Rhythm
When these factors are not aligned, effort struggles to produce noticeable change.
The ancients believed:
"Smooth sailing is easy, going against the current brings many obstacles."
When a person's overall state gradually returns to balance, effort will truly begin to accumulate results.
